In an effort to find financial stability, that elusive mythical creature to the artist, I have started an apprenticeship at a tattoo shop. It's an unpaid deal as I'm basically trading work for knowledge, like paying for college by working instead of money. However that means working unpaid for a year before I can start tattooing safely, which doesn't help the financial reason that's the reason I took this path. My time for commissions is limited since I'm not working 30 hours a week, but I'm still working through them. However it's still a trickle of income. So I've been really promoting my Patreon page www.patreon.com/LinzArcher in hopes of increasing my prospects.  The internship is going to be a great investment and a much steadier income once I'm done. I've landed in a good shop. I just have to get through this period. So if you could help spread the word about my Patreon, that would be awesome! Thanks!

SALE ENDS MONDAY!
EVERYTHING MUST GO!
Lots of popular images still left!
50% or more off!

Prints will no longer be available for retail after Monday Feb. 29!

I'm no longer doing prints. Although I still have lots of commissions and 2 book covers I'm working on, unfortunately I have neither the time, money, nor clout to get into the good shows anymore. I've been beating a dead horse with the art prints for a while now. If things change then I'll revisit the prospect, but I don't see that happening any time soon as I seek something more stable.

In the mean time, the fairy tutorial book I collaborated on is now on Amazon! So if you like the way I do color pencil then you might enjoy picking up this book. www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%…

Hope everyone is staying shiny!

Been a While

Haven't posted in a while... Life got a bit busy.

Since I last posted, much has happened. I just finished working on a Color Pencil tutorial book for Walter Foster Publishing. Also I've been doing a lot of storyboarding, which has been really great and allowed me to work on some fun projects. There's been a lot of switching gears in an attempt to support my little family, and oil painting is challenging with a new tiny artist in the house. Still it's neat seeing her love for it and kinda helps stoke my own artistic fires.

It's also been a while since I have been able to get to any of the bigger shows. Still on the waiting list to get back into Dragon Con. But the art is taking me in new directions and I'm not sure where that will lead. If you like my work, I encourage you to check out my website at www.lindsayarcher.com.

Please help support your fellow artists. Remember, if you like the art but don't buy the art, the artist can't afford to make the art.

Till next time...

Honestly I don't blog on Deviant Art.  I leave that up to my actual blog.  Some I've written in the past might be helpful or amusing to other artists, so I thought that I would share them here.

Gaming Illustration Basics

linzarcher.blogspot.com/2011/0…

Recently someone contacted me. They were embarking on their first illustration job and wanted some advice. It seemed like a good thing to share with others as well.

Becoming a Con Artist

linzarcher.blogspot.com/2013/1…

When I say "Con" I mean the abbreviated term for convention.  Although I wrote a blog on getting started doing illustration work in the gaming industry, what about those artists that just want to do their own thing and set up and sell their stuff?

Recently I finished "Beauty in Bloom" in which I used a texture technique that I've become quite fond of recently.

One of the things that I learned at Larry's class was about depth in painting. In art classes I had previously been introduced to perspective in drawings, but painting was an area that I was largely self taught. Beyond horizon lines and perspective drawing, I had not been introduced to the concept that color can also interpret distance.

The Good, The Bad, and the Cosplay: Pros on Cons

linzarcher.blogspot.com/2013/0…

Recently a friend shared a Cracked article on the dark side of Comic Con, but it was from the perspective of an attendee, so I felt inclined to share the other side of the coin.  I'm an artist, and conventions are my bread and butter.  Therefore I both adore Cons and loathe them for different reasons.  Allow me to illuminate some of the pros and cons from inside the booth.

Otherworld

5 min read
In an ancient time of magic and mystery, a prophecy is foretold of a princess, who will brave great trials to bring about peace to her world. Dark forces stir against the prophesied child from the moment of her birth, and actions must be taken to protect and conceal her from those who would seek to end the child and the prophecy. After living in relative peace for most of her childhood, times change and hardships befall the kingdom. Her realm is torn apart by war, and the grown princess, Islene consents to marry a prince in hopes of peace. This act sets the wheels of prophecy in motion, bringing her closer to her destiny, and the world of magic. Her journey is one of self discovery and growth, for herself and those around her, including the magical creatures that she encounters. Not everything is what it seems, and prophecies are fickle things. Enemies and friends are everywhere, in this world and the Otherworld. Join Islene on her Quest!

Artemis Rising Productions has gathered together its extensive talent and resources to produce an amazing tale, worthy of the Brothers Grimm. However, this is not your typical Princess story. Characters develop and grow. Worlds and kingdoms collide. Secrets are kept and revealed, making this a truly compelling saga.

It is our intention to show our fans and investors, through an epic trailer, the same high quality that we intend to bring to the series itself. This fundrazr will help pay the talented professionals that we have on board to produce this ambitious, but amazing trailer that will help us achieve the ultimate goal of making the series a reality. We will use this trailer as one of our primary means of garnering attention and funding for the series.

How do we know it's going to be amazing? Allow us to list just a few of the people we have on board:

Matt Shumway is on board as our Visual FX consultant, helping us to navigate the tricky waters of green screen and CGI. Matt currently works for Industrial Light and Magic and previously worked for Rhythm and Hues. You may recognize some of his work in Life of Pi, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Golden Compass and many more.

Roy Wooley will be bringing our mythical and magical creatures to life. You may remember him from Syfy's hit series Face Off, or at least his hat. He's back on for this current season as a Veteran to challenge new contestants.

Carrie Anne Hunt stars as the lead and brings her classical training and film experience to shape this web series into a work of art. A hard-working actress, Carrie Anne is best known for her role as "Sophy Hopkey" in the historical epic Wesley . Other projects to watch for Carrie Anne in include: Season 3 of Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva as "Summer", The Persephone Series as "Persephone", and Edgar Allen Poe's Mystery Theatre as "Virginia Poe".

Many more industry professionals are joining our team and raising the bar, but we need YOUR help to get the film rolling. Your contribution will help us attain a quality series with high production values in the fairly new market of web series. It will promote the growing film industry throughout the Southeast. It will support a woman-owned business. Most of all, it will bring to life a captivating story that will explore the depths of the human heart, even as it explores other worlds.

THANK YOU for your support of independent film and artists. We are aiming to put good work into the world that carries with it a positive message, and we appreciate any and all help as we get started with our endeavor.
